Andrew Garfield returns to the historical epic genre with The Uprising, a Paul Greengrass-directed film about the English Peasants' Revolt of 1381, with the first trailer now released ahead of its 11 September cinema debut. Written and directed by Greengrass, known for true-story dramas such as Captain Phillips and The Lost Bus, the film has drawn comparisons to Mel Gibson's Braveheart and marks Garfield's first venture into the genre since his Oscar-nominated turn in Hacksaw Ridge.

Garfield plays Ploughman, a farmer who becomes a leader of the rebellion against King Richard II amid crushing taxation linked to the Hundred Years' War, rallying commoners in an uprising significant enough to breach the Tower of London, the only time the fortress has been stormed. The film, released by Focus Features, features a strong supporting cast including Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston and Sky Yang.
