Britain has appointed its first dedicated artificial intelligence minister, Kanishka Narayan, as part of new Prime Minister Andy Burnham's government restructuring. Alongside establishing a new AI Taskforce to oversee technological development, the administration positioned artificial intelligence as central to its policy programme, while Narayan publicly acknowledged widespread public anxiety about the technology's potential consequences for employment across generations.

Rather than dismissing these concerns, the government recognised the unprecedented pace of technological change and pledged to actively shape AI's direction, though without guaranteeing successful outcomes. Burnham specifically targeted recruitment sector practices, criticising both algorithmic screening of job applicants and video-based interview formats, arguing they disadvantage young people who lack existing professional connections or cannot effectively demonstrate their abilities through digital communication.
