Anne Hathaway’s ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Replacement Is a Surprise Netflix Hit

Collider · 2 months ago

Anne Hathaway is enjoying a run of high-profile projects in 2026, having already featured in the box-office hit The Devil Wears Prada 2 and preparing to appear as Penelope in Christopher Nolan's ambitious adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey, due out on 17 July. Against this backdrop, one of her older and less celebrated films, the 2019 con-artist comedy The Hustle, has unexpectedly climbed into the ten most-streamed movies worldwide on Netflix, giving the poorly reviewed remake a surprise second life.

The Hustle, directed by British comedian Chris Addison, is a female-led remake of 1988's Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (itself a remake of 1964's Bedtime Story) and stars Hathaway as Josephine Chesterfield opposite Rebel Wilson as Penny Rust, two grifters with contrasting styles chasing a big score. The film was poorly received on release, with critics branding it "generally unfunny and regressive" and "a slab of cold, unfunny comedy". Nolan's The Odyssey, meanwhile, boasts a large ensemble cast including Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and others, and has drawn early praise from critics.
