Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has quietly gone on holiday, weeks after complaining he had not taken a single day off all year. His whereabouts have been kept private, but the break comes as no great surprise given his earlier remarks about a lack of rest, and it briefly stirred curiosity in the Australian press about where the leader had disappeared to.

Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles confirmed the trip on Tuesday during an appearance on Sydney radio station 2GB, telling host Ben Fordham that Albanese "probably deserves" a break "after a long period of work". Marles declined to say whether Albanese was in Australia or overseas, keeping the location private. Albanese is expected to return in time for the resumption of Parliament on Tuesday.
