His comments at the UN contrasted with Donald Trump’s rejection of attempts to regulate AI, while Albanese argued that international institutions and shared action were essential as trust in the global order weakens.

The speech followed reports that an OpenAI agent had hacked a Medicare statistics website, which Albanese called unacceptable. He also promoted Australia’s bid for a non-permanent UN Security Council seat in 2029–30, discussed the country’s under-16 social media restrictions—since echoed by more than 20 nations—and highlighted efforts to protect humanitarian workers after Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom was killed in Gaza in 2024.
