Man jailed for 15 years over explosive attack on Ulez camera in Sidcup
Kevin Rees, 63, has been jailed for 15 years after being convicted of setting off a homemade explosive beside a Ulez camera in Sidcup, south-east London. The blast damaged nearby cars and a child’s bedroom window, prompting a counter-terrorism investigation; police said it was fortunate nobody was seriously hurt.
The explosion took place on 6 December 2023, after Rees travelled from his home, planted the device and lit its fuse. Investigators found black powder at the scene, materials that can be used in low explosives at his home, and three homemade stun guns; he was also convicted on three prohibited-weapon counts. Rees had posted about Ulez cameras and encouraged damage to them, and told the court he strongly opposed the scheme and Mayor Sadiq Khan.
