Anya Taylor-Joy’s 2024 film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has become a leading streaming title on HBO Max, despite its comparatively weak cinema performance. Its renewed popularity matters because it suggests the critically acclaimed Mad Max prequel is finding a wider audience after failing to generate major theatrical returns.

The film, in which Taylor-Joy takes over the role of Furiosa from Charlize Theron opposite Chris Hemsworth, holds 90% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Made on a reported $168 million budget, it grossed about $174 million worldwide, but is now among HBO Max’s top titles in more than 10 countries and has also performed well on video-on-demand services.
