Anya Taylor-Joy’s New Thriller Is Officially One of Netflix’s Biggest Hits

Romain Gavras’s satirical thriller *Sacrifice*, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans, has become an early Netflix hit in the United States despite receiving divided reviews. Its strong start suggests the high-profile cast is drawing viewers, while the film’s themes of radicalism and political satire connect it to Gavras’s earlier work.

Evans plays a film star held hostage by radicals who believe humanity can be saved by sacrificing three people; Taylor-Joy plays the group’s leader. The ensemble also includes Sam Richardson, Ambika Mod, Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek, John Malkovich and Charli XCX. After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025, the film debuted on Netflix in the US and France, with a planned theatrical release in the UK and other European markets.
