Apple has confirmed it will hold its next iPhone launch event on 9 September, with a livestream available via Apple's website and YouTube from 1pm ET. The announcement fuels speculation that the company may finally unveil a foldable iPhone, alongside its usual autumn refresh, marking a significant moment for the product line and for new CEO John Ternus, who takes charge from Tim Cook on 1 September.

The rumoured foldable device, possibly called the iPhone Ultra, is expected to open into a tablet-style format akin to an iPad Mini, with hints reportedly found in iOS 27 code. Apple is also tipped to further split its iPhone 18 range, launching the Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro models in September while holding back the iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18e and base iPhone 18 until spring 2027. Artificial intelligence is expected to feature heavily, building on Apple's WWDC push towards a unified ecosystem centred on its revamped "Siri AI" assistant, with other rumoured products including new iPads, a HomePod mini refresh and a smart home display.
