Apple Completes the Set: Every Magnificent Seven Stock Opts Out of OKX-ICE Venue
Apple, Meta and nine other companies have objected to having their shares offered on a planned tokenised stock venue run by OKX and Intercontinental Exchange. Their additions bring the number of objecting issuers to 67 and complete the “Magnificent Seven” tech companies’ withdrawal, raising questions about which prominent stocks the platform will be able to offer.
The venue is a 50-50 joint venture that plans to offer US shares around the clock through permissioned pools on OKX’s XLayer blockchain, with an outside provider holding matching real shares. Under an SEC innovation exemption, a company notified of a proposed tokenised version of its shares can block it at that venue by objecting in writing within 30 days. The objection applies only to that venue; it remains unclear which stocks will be available at launch, and companies including Coinbase, Robinhood and Berkshire Hathaway are absent from the objection list.
In short
- All seven “Magnificent Seven” companies have objected.
- The objection list now includes 67 companies.
- The venue has not disclosed which stocks it plans to offer.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Companies have a reasonable interest in controlling how their shares are represented and traded, particularly where tokenised versions could create confusion about shareholder rights, ownership records or responsibility for market safeguards. The objection process gives issuers a defined way to raise those concerns while the venue’s launch plans and available protections remain unclear.
The case against
Tokenised shares could widen access to US equities and enable trading outside conventional market hours, while the venue says it will use permissioned pools and matching real shares held by an outside provider. Critics of issuer vetoes may argue that allowing companies to block a proposed listing limits investor choice and innovation, especially when the objection applies to one venue rather than settling broader questions about tokenised trading.
