Apple's iOS 27 and tvOS 27 updates bring Apple Intelligence features to Apple Home, adding AI-generated video summaries, search and multi-camera clip stitching to HomeKit Secure Video. However, these features require a significantly more expensive iCloud Plus subscription, prompting criticism that the upgrade offers poor value given the scale of the price rise for what is, so far, a single-camera feature per lower tier.

Support for the features starts at the 2TB iCloud Plus plan ($9.99 a month, or $39.95 via Apple One Premier) for one camera, rising to $29.99 a month for a second camera and $59.99 a month for up to five cameras. This marks a steep jump from HomeKit Secure Video's previous entry price of around $1 a month, and is notably higher than comparable AI camera subscriptions from Amazon Ring and Google Nest, which cost roughly $20 a month while offering more features. Existing HomeKit Secure Video functionality remains unchanged, and the update also brings improved speed, reliability and 4K video support, but the reviewer argues the new AI features don't justify the added cost.
