Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Series 12 at its September 9th product launch event, roughly a year after the Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 debuted. The announcement is notable as one of the first major product launches under new Apple chief executive John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook on 1 September and previously oversaw hardware engineering, including earlier Apple Watch models.

Full specifications for the Series 12 have not yet been detailed, but it follows last year's Series 11, which started at $399 in 42mm and 46mm sizes and introduced 5G connectivity, hypertension monitoring, a Sleep Score feature, tougher Ion-X glass and better battery life while being Apple's thinnest smartwatch at 9.7mm. The launch also comes despite a broader round of Apple price increases this year, which notably has not affected the Apple Watch line, still starting at $399.
