Apple Music Raises Subscription Prices

The Hollywood Reporter · 1 month ago

Apple Music has raised its subscription prices for the first time since 2022, citing rising licensing costs. The increase brings Apple Music's pricing closer to rival Spotify, though it remains slightly cheaper, and reflects a broader push from major record labels to charge more for streaming as compensation for years of inflation and what they view as an undervalued product.

The standard individual plan rises by $1 to $11.99 a month, the family plan increases by $3 to $19.99, and the student plan goes up by $1 to $6.99. This keeps Apple Music a dollar cheaper than Spotify's premium tier, which costs $12.99 a month and also includes audiobook access, though Spotify itself raised prices earlier this year in January. Apple last increased Apple Music's price in October 2022, at the same time as a hike to Apple TV+, and gave the same justification of rising licensing costs.
