Apple Music will reportedly label any AI-made tracks later this year

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Apple is reportedly developing a "Made With AI" label for Apple Music, according to Variety, which would require tracks to be tagged if a significant portion of their content was created using generative AI. The move would formalise and strengthen Apple's existing approach to AI transparency, addressing growing concern across the music industry about undisclosed AI-generated content, or "slop," on streaming platforms.

No timeline or precise criteria for the label have been made public, and Apple has not confirmed the report. Earlier this year Apple introduced Transparency Tags, but these relied on labels and distributors choosing to apply them voluntarily, making the system inconsistent. The new "Made With AI" tag would reportedly make disclosure mandatory rather than optional. The change comes amid wider industry pushback against AI music, including major labels calling last month for AI-generated tracks to be excluded from global charts, while services like Deezer have developed tools to detect such content.
