iOS 27 launches with generative AI-powered Siri in beta
Apple has begun rolling out iOS 27, alongside watchOS 27, iPadOS 27 and visionOS 27, with the headline feature being an AI-powered overhaul of Siri known as Siri AI. The update marks a significant, and previously delayed, step in Apple's push to bring generative AI capabilities to its voice assistant across its device ecosystem, though its initial rollout is limited in scope.
Siri AI launches today in beta for English-language devices only, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish promised in October. Other notable additions include a Liquid Glass opacity slider for adjusting interface transparency, redesigned app icons, extra-large widgets and separate volume controls for ringtones, alarms and alerts. watchOS 27 brings new Workout Buddy features and Smart Stack suggestions, iPadOS 27 improves file transfer and browsing speeds, and visionOS 27 adds eye-based notification previews and immersive panorama support. iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd gen) onwards, with corresponding compatibility updates for Apple Watch, iPad and Vision Pro devices.
