Apple TV 4K 2022 vs. 2026: What’s new and is it worth the $100 jump?
Apple’s 2026 Apple TV 4K adds a faster processor, built-in microphones for hands-free Siri and a redesigned remote, but costs $299, raising questions about whether the upgrade justifies its price. The new Siri AI features are also coming to Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onwards, so owners of the 2022 device do not need to upgrade to get them.
The new model launches on 13 November with an A19 chip, which Apple says is up to 50 per cent faster for CPU tasks and twice as fast for graphics, plus Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and AV1 video decoding. It comes with 128GB of storage and Ethernet; the 2022 model previously started at $129, while its 128GB Ethernet version rose to $249 in June. Both devices remain limited to 4K at 60 frames per second, and the new remote is also sold separately for $59.
- Apple’s 2026 Apple TV 4K costs $299.
- It adds A19 performance, built-in mics and updated wireless.
- Existing models will also receive Siri AI.
New here? Start with this
Apple TV 4K is a small streaming device that connects to a television, letting people watch films and programmes through apps such as Apple TV+. The 2022 and 2026 versions both display 4K video at up to 60 frames per second, so the newer model does not raise that limit.
Apple makes the device, and its Apple TV app and Siri voice assistant are part of its wider services and products. The 2026 version has a newer processor and updated wireless connections, while its built-in microphones allow hands-free use of Siri; some new Siri features are also planned for older models.
The price matters because the 2026 model costs more than the 2022 version did at launch, and its remote is available separately. For buyers, the main question is whether the added hardware and storage are useful enough to justify the higher cost, especially if they already own a recent Apple TV 4K.
Both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The $299 model could be worthwhile for buyers who want the fastest performance, newer wireless standards, more storage and hands-free Siri in one device. Its stronger graphics and AV1 support may also make it a better choice for demanding games and future streaming services, while the redesigned remote adds convenience.
The case against
For most owners of the 2022 model, the upgrade may offer too little practical benefit for the price: both devices top out at 4K and 60 frames per second, and the new Siri features will also reach older models. At $299, the new device costs substantially more than the 2022 model’s original $129 starting price, and buyers can get the redesigned remote separately for $59.
