The programme employs matchmakers to connect individuals who appear fundamentally mismatched, then sends them on adventures through isolated, romantic destinations around the globe. Positioned as a social experiment addressing contemporary polarisation and disconnection, the series examines whether genuine romantic bonds can develop between people with seemingly incompatible backgrounds and values. Perel brings substantial credentials to the project, including bestselling books, the popular 'Where Should We Begin?' podcast featuring real therapy sessions, and her consulting work on the A24 film 'The Invite.'

The commission represents Apple TV's inaugural foray into relationship-centred documentary programming, deliberately distancing itself from competition-driven reality formats like 'Married at First Sight' by emphasising therapeutic exploration over conflict and drama. Produced by UK indie Boldprint Studios under directors Josh Jacobs and Olly Lambert, the series reflects Apple's recent strategic shift toward romance content, including an announcement of acquisition rights to author Rebecca Yarros' forthcoming novel. Thematically reminiscent of Netflix's 'The Later Daters,' the programme targets viewers navigating modern dating complexities in polarised times.
