Apple TV’s Ted Lasso has returned for a fourth season to broadly positive critical reception after a three-year break. The new series serves as a soft reboot, bringing Ted back into the AFC Richmond story to coach a newly formed women’s team, while reuniting several familiar characters. Its reception matters because the original third season appeared to conclude Ted’s story, yet the show’s continued popularity has prompted Apple TV to extend one of its flagship comedies.

The season begins with Ted settled in Kansas, working part-time in a grocery shop and focusing on his son, before Keeley, Higgins and Rebecca travel to persuade him to return to Richmond. New cast members include Tanya Reynolds, Faye Marsay and Abbie Hern. At the time of publication, Season 4 held an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score, eight percentage points above Season 3’s rating but below Season 1’s 92%.
