Apple launches Health app overhaul with active analytics in iOS 27.2 beta

Engadget · 57 minutes ago

Apple has begun rolling out its redesigned Health app early to developers through the iOS 27.2 beta, ahead of a planned wider release later in 2026. The overhaul marks a significant shift for the app, which has traditionally just stored data collected from the Apple Watch and other Bluetooth fitness devices; it now actively analyses that data, bringing it closer to rivals such as Whoop, Oura and Google Fit that already turn raw metrics into scores and personalised guidance.

The beta introduces two new sections: an Insights tab summarising daily metrics and trends across sleep, fitness and readiness (with readiness limited to Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 owners), and a Longevity tab featuring a "Health Age" score estimating how the body is functioning relative to its actual age, alongside new movement assessments for flexibility, strength and balance. The app will also surface written and video commentary from health experts in response to a user's data. Further features, including personalised Insights summaries, tailored recommendations and the ability to order lab tests through Quest, are expected in later beta updates, though Apple has not confirmed an exact public launch date beyond "later this year".
