Arc Raiders update overhauls the game’s matchmaking system
Extraction shooter Arc Raiders has released update 1.36.0, which reworks its distinctive matchmaking system in response to long-standing player feedback. The game uses an unusual aggression-based approach, assigning each player a hidden rating so that those who frequently fight other players are matched into more combat-heavy lobbies, while players who stick to fighting Arc enemies land in gentler "care bear" games. The change matters because it addresses a common frustration and could tempt lapsed players back, though the game already retains a healthy base of 40,000-50,000 daily peak concurrent players on PC, according to SteamDB.
Previously, a single rating covered all play, so a player who questa peacefully alone but fought aggressively alongside friends would be pushed into more PvP-heavy solo lobbies too. Under the new system, play style is tracked separately across solo, duo and trio modes, meaning behaviour in one squad size no longer bleeds into another. The update also adds a new outfit obtainable by playing Embark Studios' other title The Finals, completes the rollout of Denuvo anti-cheat, brings further duplication glitch fixes, and extends the ban on free loadouts to more map conditions. The article suggests the larger Frozen Trail update, due in October, is a more likely driver of renewed popularity.
