Argentina's football association (AFA) has created a new annual "National Football Teams Day" on 15 July to commemorate the country's 2-1 World Cup semi-final victory over England in Atlanta last month. The decision was made at an AFA executive board meeting and is intended to celebrate not only the senior men's team but all national sides, including youth, women's, futsal and beach soccer squads. The move comes as the same match remains under scrutiny by Fifa over a controversial banner displayed by Argentina's players.

The AFA said the win, in which Lionel Scaloni's side came from behind through goals from Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez, sparked nationwide celebration. However, Fifa has opened disciplinary proceedings against the AFA over a post-match banner asserting Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. Separately, Fifa is investigating Argentina players Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina, along with assistant coach Roberto Ayala, over a brawl that followed the team's 1-0 defeat by Spain in the World Cup final on 19 July.
