Ariana Grande Says ‘Petal’ Showcases a Side of Her You’ve Never Seen Before: ‘Unfiltered Rage’

Ariana Grande has revealed that her upcoming album, Petal, was written from a place of "unfiltered rage," marking a notably different creative approach for the pop star. In a new Apple Music clip released ahead of a longer interview airing on the platform, Grande said the record taps into emotions she has usually been too shy or polite to express, and that unlike her past work, she resisted the urge to soften or rewrite the lyrics.

The 12-track album is set for release on Friday, 31 July, with Grande describing it as pulling from many different sides of herself while also being experimental. She has previously called the project "feral," and lyrics from songs already shared, including the Billboard Hot 100 number one single "Hate That I Made You Love Me" and the title track debuted live in Montreal on her Eternal Sunshine Tour, show her addressing public scrutiny and past relationships with unusual candour.
