Ariana Grande says ‘Petal’ was written from a place of “unfiltered rage”

Ariana Grande has said her forthcoming eighth studio album, ‘Petal’, was written with more “unfiltered rage” than she normally allows into her songwriting. Speaking in a preview of an Apple Music interview, she said she resisted her usual tendency to soften lyrics through rewrites, suggesting the record marks a more confrontational and experimental direction.

‘Petal’ is due for release on 31 July through Republic Records and contains 12 tracks, led by single ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’. Grande previously called the album “a little feral” and said it emerged from feelings she had been too shy or polite to express; she is currently on the ‘Eternal Sunshine’ tour, with a 10-night London O2 Arena residency scheduled for August.
