Ariana Grande plans to "step back from visibility" once her Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes, following weeks of public concern over her noticeably thin appearance. The announcement comes just after the release of her new album petal, whose title track video prompted widespread comparisons to Karen Carpenter's appearance in her final years, and criticism from figures including Jameela Jamil, who accused Grande's team of glamorising an unhealthy image for young fans.

A representative told People that Grande wants to finish the tour "on a high note, both healthily and happily" before taking a break from public-facing work after "endless, ongoing public scrutiny," while a source close to her insisted she is performing at a high level and in good health. Grande has also withdrawn from a planned 2027 West End revival of Sondheim's Sunday In The Park With George alongside Jonathan Bailey, though she remains supportive of the production, which will proceed at the Barbican as scheduled. Her Eternal Sunshine Tour is due to end in London on 1 September.
