Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1982 fantasy film Conan the Barbarian has begun streaming on Netflix in the United States, 44 years after its original release. The R-rated sword-and-sorcery epic matters because it helped establish Schwarzenegger as a major Hollywood star and has gained greater appreciation over time.

Directed by John Milius, the 129-minute film follows Conan as he seeks revenge against Thulsa Doom, who murdered his family and enslaved him. The film cost about $20 million to make and earned roughly $69 million worldwide; it currently has a 68% critics’ score and a 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
