Arsenal poised to land PSG’s Élisa De Almeida on WSL transfer deadline day

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of France defender Élisa De Almeida from Paris Saint-Germain before Thursday's 11pm BST Women's Super League transfer deadline, in a move partly prompted by an unspecified-length knee injury to Vivianne Miedema. Elsewhere, PSG are resisting attempts by Manchester City to sign Nigeria midfielder Jennifer Echegini, while new Manchester United head coach Eva Olid has said her side's transfer business is complete ahead of the WSL season opener.

A fee of just over £500,000 has been agreed for the 28-year-old De Almeida, who has played for PSG since 2021. The WSL season begins on Friday with London City Lionesses hosting Manchester United, for whom Mexico midfielder Rebeca Bernal will be available having joined on Wednesday. Olid, formerly of Hearts, pledged an "attacking" style of play and said further signings would wait until January, when she plans to bring in players suited to her approach; she also defended United's financial backing despite Chelsea reportedly spending nearly three times as much on their women's wage bill.
