Art Garfunkel, one half of Simon & Garfunkel, has said he is considering leaving the United States because of his dismay at the direction the country has taken under President Donald Trump. In a new interview with The Guardian, the 84-year-old singer said he is "not aboard" with current events and is "thinking of leaving the country, frankly," citing concerns that extend well beyond Trump himself to issues including climate change, hunger and America's increasingly aggressive foreign policy.

Garfunkel singled out the Trump administration's actions in Venezuela as particularly "shocking", coming roughly eight months after US forces captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in Caracas and brought him to America to face federal charges, with legal experts still questioning the operation's legality. Despite his frustration, he struck a note of cautious optimism, pointing out that "Trump won't last forever." The interview also touched on his life and career, including his rekindled but still distant friendship with Paul Simon, whom he last saw around a year ago following a 2025 reconciliation dinner after a long estrangement, and his ongoing "What a Wonderful World" concert tour, which resumes this month across the US before heading to the UK, France, Germany and Japan.
