At least 47 Americans are among more than 400 tourists unaccounted for after devastating flash floods struck Nepal in the wake of a catastrophic earthquake on Wednesday. Nepal's Tourism Board said the missing include nearly 50 US nationals and 33 Britons, with rescue operations continuing as officials warn the death toll is likely to rise. Prime Minister Balendra Shah said the country had been left "shocked and deeply distressed" and confirmed that all available government resources had been mobilised to assist the search.

Of the 403 tourists reported missing, 200 are women and 203 men, while the prime minister's office has confirmed 95 bodies recovered so far, including a three-month-old baby. Nepal police have published a list of injured survivors receiving hospital treatment, among them children as young as three, with some described as covered in scratches or unable to speak. Footage has shown the floodwaters engulfing the affected area within moments, underlining the scale and speed of the disaster.
