Attempted murder arrests over air rifle shooting
Three people have been arrested, two on suspicion of attempted murder, after a woman was shot with an air rifle in Thurnscoe, Barnsley. South Yorkshire Police were called to Windsor Street at 21:50 BST on Tuesday following reports of a person with a suspected firearm, and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, remaining in a stable but life-threatening condition.
A 26-year-old woman was arrested at the scene, while a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 37-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender, both on Wednesday; all three remain in custody. An air rifle was recovered from the scene, and a police helicopter was used to search for a suspect, with a cordon still in place on Wednesday as officers continue their inquiries. Detective Inspector Claire Moss described the attack as "vicious" and appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
