The 37-year-old Gabonese striker, who joined after leaving Barcelona, added two assists to his winning goal in the victory, underlining a wider revival at the club dubbed "Super Dépor" during their early-2000s heyday, when they won a league title and reached the Champions League semi-finals before falling into financial decline and repeated relegations.

Aubameyang's four-game scoring run beats a record set by Bebeto in 1992, and he is now targeting the club mark of scoring in seven consecutive league games, jointly held by Bebeto and Lucas Pérez. Deportivo, who returned to the top flight this summer after eight years away, backed the campaign with an ambitious €26m (£22.3m) transfer outlay, including deadline-day loan signings José María Giménez and Marc Casadó, plus the free arrival of Adama Traoré. The club, now 99.99% owned by Galician bank Abanca, has also rebranded to "A Coruña" following a fan vote, reflecting a broader turnaround since a Covid-era relegation to the third tier in 2020.
