An Australian couple say they were left without their luggage for a week during a European holiday after ITA Airways failed to return their suitcases, with the airline seemingly refusing to take responsibility. Alanah Schena, 22, and her boyfriend Nathan Leeson missed both connecting flights on their route from Calabria to Split via Rome and Amsterdam after their initial flight was delayed, and were told they would have to wait 25 hours for the next available service.

Facing the prospect of missing their planned itinerary, the couple applied for a refund and booked alternative travel arrangements themselves, but their checked luggage was not returned to them and remained with the airline. As a result, they were forced to continue their Croatian holiday without any of their belongings for seven days, with Ms Schena, a beauty educator, saying no one at the airline would take responsibility for resolving the situation.
