Aussie grandmother fighting for life after freak accident while on holiday in Bali as family desperately seek funds to help pay for massive medical bills
Estelle Ravenscroft, a 79-year-old from Busselton, Western Australia, is in intensive care in Bali after falling into an open stairwell at a restaurant while on holiday. Her family says the fall and a severe reaction to pain medication have left her in a critical condition, with major medical costs adding to their distress.
Ravenscroft suffered six fractures across her upper legs and underwent nine hours of emergency surgery. The medication reaction affected her heart, and she has since needed two blood transfusions; her family says she remains unable to communicate. She and her husband did not have travel insurance, and relatives have started a fundraiser to help cover treatment and the specialist transport and rehabilitation she may need in Australia.

Bali is an Indonesian island and a popular destination for visitors from Australia. Australian travellers who become seriously ill or injured overseas may need treatment in local hospitals before they can return home.
Travel insurance can help cover medical care abroad and the cost of returning to Australia for further treatment. Without it, patients and their families may face large bills for hospital care, specialist transport and rehabilitation, while relying on family funds or public donations.
