Queensland mother seeks answers after toddler left unresponsive at childcare centre
Queensland’s early childhood regulator is investigating an incident at a Loganlea childcare centre after three-year-old Nikoah became unresponsive in the playground last month. His mother, Rachael Pope, says CCTV shows an educator nearby as children gathered around him before the educator intervened, and she is seeking answers about the centre’s response.
The footage reportedly shows the educator intervening 33 seconds after entering the frame, while Nikoah was carried inside more than three minutes after he collapsed. Pope says staff told her he had been unresponsive for five minutes and that no ambulance was called; she took him to hospital, where he stayed for 24 hours. A month later he is still undergoing tests, and Pope is calling for more first-aid training for childcare workers.
