Aussie surf brand under fire over ‘sexualised’ campaign: ‘Poor body image’
Australian surf and streetwear brand Ghanda has faced criticism over images in its Summer 2026 catalogue that campaigners say sexualise young women. The dispute matters because the catalogue was distributed to customers and promoted through the brand’s large Instagram audience, prompting concerns about its influence on teenage girls’ body image and expectations.
Campaign group Collective Shout said it wrote to Ghanda on 30 June and that almost 200 supporters had contacted the company; a customer’s mother also criticised the campaign’s message to girls. Ghanda said all featured models were in their mid-20s, the shoot promoted its adult swimwear range, and an internal review and advice from Ad Standards Australia found no breach of relevant standards; it said customer feedback would inform future shoots.
- Ghanda’s catalogue drew claims of sexualising women.
- Critics cited possible body-image effects on girls.
- Ghanda said the adult campaign met advertising standards.
