Australia call up Teddy Wilson – son of World Cup winner David

BBC Sport ·

Teddy Wilson, the son of former Australia captain David Wilson, has been selected for the Wallabies’ November Nations Championship Tests. The 24-year-old scrum-half has impressed for the Waratahs and will provide cover alongside Tate McDermott for first-choice nine Ryan Lonergan.

David Wilson won the 1999 Rugby World Cup with Australia and played 79 Tests, but says he has not pressured his son to follow his sporting career. Teddy captained Australia at the 2023 Under-20 World Championships; the squad also includes several other players whose fathers represented the Wallabies. Australia begin against England at Twickenham on 8 November, then face Scotland and Wales before a final-weekend play-off.

In short

  • Teddy Wilson earns a Wallabies call-up.

  • Australia’s November Tests begin against England on 8 November.
