Lorna Henstridge, believed to be Australia's oldest woman, has died at the age of 112 following a weeks-long battle with pneumonia. Her death, confirmed in the Adelaide Advertiser on Monday, came shortly after she celebrated her 112th birthday on 6 June, closing out a remarkable life that spanned more than a century of Australian and world history.

Born in Bute on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula in 1914, Ms Henstridge lived through two world wars, two global pandemics, 26 Australian prime ministers and the reigns of five British monarchs. She lived independently until the age of 105 and credited her long, happy life to always doing something she enjoyed. She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with a further great-grandchild born since her 110th birthday celebrations.
