Australia recruit Hussey for Ashes build-up
Australia have appointed former batter Michael Hussey as a long-term batting consultant, bringing him into the national set-up to help prepare for the 2027 Ashes and upcoming international tournaments. The move follows a run of poor Test batting results, and gives the team an experienced coach across formats as it prepares for a demanding few years.
Hussey will begin with Australia’s five-match T20 series against England from 21 November, also helping with preparations for cricket’s return to the Olympics in 2028 and that year’s World Cup. Before the Ashes, Australia are scheduled to play four Tests against New Zealand and five in India, followed by a one-off Test against England at the MCG. Hussey played 79 Tests, averaging 51.52, and 223 limited-overs internationals; he has also coached in the IPL and the men’s Hundred.
