Australian Dramedy ‘Her Last Laugh,’ With ‘XO, Kitty’ and ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Actors, Heads to Busan Buyers (EXCLUSIVE)
Joy Hopwood's Australian dramedy "Her Last Laugh" has been selected for international sales at the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market, represented by Hong Kong-based Cappu Films. The film stars Peter Thurnwald from "XO, Kitty" and Ana Thu Nguyen from "Mortal Kombat II", alongside John Waters. Hopwood wrote, directed and produced the film, continuing her focus on Chinese Australian narratives.
The story centres on sisters Willow and Annika Lim, who inherit their late mother's casting agency with a condition: it must turn a profit within twelve months or pass to their estranged uncle. As the agency faces departing clients and competitive threats, the sisters fight to save both their livelihood and their mother's legacy, whilst uncovering family diaries that lead them to reconsider what truly matters. This is Hopwood's sixth Asian Australian story, with an Australian theatrical release scheduled for November.
