Authorities arrested a man on suspicion of monitoring security preparations at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, ahead of a fundraiser US President Donald Trump was due to attend. The arrest has drawn attention because of the man's proximity to a sitting president's venue and the weapons and ammunition found both on him and at his home, though officials say there is no credible ongoing threat to the public.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, from Downey, was detained on Sunday after he was seen taking photos and video around the golf club while carrying a 16-round ammunition magazine, with a loaded pistol found in his vehicle. A subsequent search of his home uncovered numerous firearms, magazines, ammunition, body armour and notebooks containing what police described as concerning statements. He faces several felony charges, including second-degree robbery, possessing a large-capacity magazine and possessing a short-barrelled rifle or shotgun, as well as a misdemeanour charge for carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle; he is also being investigated separately by El Segundo Police over a robbery. Taele has pleaded not guilty, was released on $250,000 bail, and has been ordered to stay away from the golf course and not possess weapons.
