Filmmaker Ava DuVernay is reteaming with Netflix for "14th," a documentary examining America's ongoing battle over citizenship and equal protection under the 14th Amendment, a decade after their acclaimed collaboration on "13th." The project, produced quietly over two years through DuVernay's Array Filmworks, positions itself as a companion piece to the earlier film but firmly focused on the present, with DuVernay stating it explores "what kind of country is being written beneath our feet now" rather than looking back at history.

The documentary features an ideologically broad range of interviewees, including sitting members of Congress such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Anna Paulina Luna, alongside figures like ousted Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, former NAACP Legal Defense Fund head Sherrilyn Ifill, Stacey Abrams, and commentators spanning the political spectrum from Hasan Piker to Donald T. Critchlow. "14th" is set to launch on Netflix later this year, continuing a partnership that previously produced the Oscar-nominated "13th" as well as "When They See Us" and "Colin in Black & White."
