Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game gets delay hours before launch

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has had its Xbox release delayed to September, just 13 hours before its scheduled launch, while the Nintendo Switch version will ship without cross-play support. The PlayStation 5 and Windows PC versions are unaffected and will launch as planned. The developers cited "unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature" as the reason for the Xbox delay, which is likely to shrink the game's overall player base at launch, a significant concern for a fighting game that relies on matchmaking numbers.

The Xbox version will now launch by 3 September, though existing pre-orders remain valid and will not be cancelled. The Switch version faces further limitations at launch, including no cross-play, English-only localisation, and availability of only the Standard Edition rather than the Deluxe Edition, which includes an art book, soundtrack and Year 1 DLC pass. Additional signs of a rushed launch include last-minute animation and gameplay reworks to several of the game's 12 characters, with developers suggesting the release was timed to coincide with the new Avatar Aang film rather than being delayed outright.
