‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Newest Series Is Officially Switching Main Characters

Avatar Studios has announced *Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos*, the franchise’s first animated prequel centred on an Avatar who lived before Aang. The series could give Kuruk a fuller story after he was largely seen through the perspectives of later Avatars, and show how he shaped the world despite being underestimated.

Little is known so far beyond the premise: a young Kuruk learns to control the elements and travels the world, defying tradition and frustrating his teacher. Kuruk inherited relative peace from the revered Avatar Yangchen, but stories in the franchise say her neglect of the spirits left him with hidden struggles; he kept them secret to protect her reputation and the order she established. The series is from the original creators, though no premiere date has been announced.
