Backyard Baseball is a children’s video game series built around informal, playground-style versions of sports. It first became popular in the late 1990s, with young players choosing teams of cartoon children and playing games such as baseball, football and basketball.
The series is known for characters including Pablo Sanchez, a small but highly skilled player, and Kiesha Phillips, an all-round athlete. The games have been revived after a long gap, with new releases planned for modern devices and consoles.
Turning the franchise into an animated programme brings those established characters into a different format. Short episodes are commonly used for children’s television, allowing stories to focus on sport, friendship and team activities.
