Baker Mayfield has agreed a three-year, £165 million ($165 million) contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ending months of uncertainty over his future with the team. The deal marks a sharp turnaround from the start of training camp in July, when Mayfield and the Buccaneers were at odds over contract terms, and he had openly discussed the possibility of playing out the season and entering free agency in 2027.

The new deal is worth $55 million per year, putting Mayfield level with Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence and Matthew Stafford as the NFL's joint third-highest-paid quarterbacks. Mayfield had rejected the Buccaneers' initial offer and set an informal deadline during camp for a new deal, but talks resumed after the deadline passed, with the team ultimately moving closer to his valuation. He has thrown 95 touchdown passes in 51 starts for Tampa Bay, and the extension keeps him with the franchise and region he and his family favour.
