Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment are set to release Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall next month, the first instalment of a three-film adaptation of the landmark 1993 comic storyline in which the villain Bane broke Batman's back. The event, which coincided with The Death of Superman era, has become one of the most recognisable moments in Batman lore, having been referenced by Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises and parodied in shows such as Robot Chicken and Rick and Morty, yet has never previously received a direct screen adaptation.

The film stars Anson Mount as Bruce Wayne and Michael Mando as Bane, and depicts Bane freeing Batman's Rogue's Gallery from Arkham Asylum before confronting the Caped Crusader directly. Collider has shared an exclusive sneak peek showing Bane infiltrating Wayne Manor, incapacitating Tim Drake and Alfred, and taunting Bruce before overpowering him in a one-sided fight, forcing Batman into a smoke-bomb retreat as Bane vows to hunt him down.
