Former US president Barack Obama has shared his annual summer playlist, mixing established classics with recent releases and offering a glimpse of the music he and Michelle Obama have been listening to. The selection matters mainly as part of his continuing post-White House tradition of highlighting both familiar artists and newer acts.

Obama introduced the playlist with a tribute to Glen Hansard, saying he and Michelle loved one of his songs and offering condolences following the musician’s reported death. The list includes artists such as Marvin Gaye, David Bowie, Nina Simone, The Beatles and Johnny Cash, alongside SZA, Doechii, Tyla, Zara Larsson, Drake, Future, Noah Kahan, Vince Staples, Anderson .Paak and RAYE; Billboard noted that “Girl, Get Up” artists SZA and Doechii have both recently had top-10 albums.
