Barcelona move clear at the top after Fermín López’s double stuns Atlético Madrid

Barcelona beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 away, recovering from an early setback to strengthen their position at the top of La Liga. The win, sealed by Fermín López’s two goals, came after defeats by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid and offered Hansi Flick’s side a response in a high-stakes match between title rivals.

Giuliano Simeone put Atlético ahead after the hosts had dominated the opening stages, and Barcelona equalised just before half-time when Fermín finished after a pass from Pedri. Lamine Yamal set up Fermín’s 65th-minute winner, his second goal of the night and eighth of the season. Atlético created several chances, including opportunities for Julián Alvarez, but could not find another goal.
