Korean studio Barunson E&A, known for backing Bong Joon Ho's Oscar-winning Parasite, has taken on worldwide sales for Satan's Slaves: Origin, the third instalment in Indonesian director Joko Anwar's horror franchise. The company will present the project to international buyers at the inaugural TIFF Market in September, calling it one of the most ambitious genre productions to emerge from Southeast Asia. The deal extends Barunson's existing partnership with Anwar and underscores the growing international appetite for Indonesian horror cinema.

Written and directed by Anwar, the film is produced by Rapi Films alongside Anwar's Come and See Pictures, Sky Media and Legacy Pictures, and is currently in pre-production ahead of a targeted 2027 Indonesian theatrical release. Billed as Anwar's most ambitious work yet, it is a standalone prequel spanning two continents and seven languages, opening amid 16th-century mass hysteria in Strasbourg before moving to a haunted lighthouse in 17th-century Java. It follows Satan's Slaves (2017), Indonesia's top-grossing local film that year, and sequel Satan's Slaves: Communion, one of the country's highest-grossing films ever, while Anwar's other recent title, Ghost In The Cell, has sold to 150 territories and drawn over 3.3 million admissions in Indonesia.
