Bassvictim: Peace + War review – like a thrillingly chaotic house party that goes on too long
Bassvictim’s fourth project in two years, *Peace + War*, extends the London-based US-Polish duo’s prolific, deliberately unruly approach. Its blend of shouting vocals, lo-fi production and early-2000s electronic and indie influences captures a rebellious, chaotic mood, though the reviewer suggests the album’s abundance can become tiring.
The 19-track release follows 31 tracks put out since January of the previous year. Maria Manow’s vocals shift between yells, slurred delivery and off-kilter melodies, while songs draw on electroclash, witch house, chiptune and indie pop; the closer, “The End”, offers a calmer contrast. The review finds the duo most compelling when they embrace the rough, demo-like sound.
In short
- Bassvictim release 19 tracks on their fourth project in two years.
- The album mixes early-2000s electronic and indie sounds.
- Its roughness is most exciting, though the project can feel overlong.
