BBC reviews Bitesize content after impartiality concerns over migration and climate change
The BBC has removed several pages and activities from its Bitesize education website after criticism that they presented political views on migration, climate change and Net Zero without sufficient impartiality. The material is under review following a newspaper investigation and a letter from the shadow education secretary, raising questions about how the BBC applies its editorial standards to content used by children.
The site, which is used by 1.7 million pupils a week, included a game that rewarded choices described as supporting open borders and an amnesty for undocumented migrants. Other material characterised concern about migrants taking local jobs as prejudice and featured progressive figures including Greta Thunberg. The BBC says it is reviewing the examples against its editorial guidelines and curriculum; a former BBC television controller has called for a transparent explanation.
